The Driving License Act was reformed on 29.5.2026. Here are some of the most significant changes.

17-year-old holder of a Class B license

  • Driving is prohibited at night between 00:00 and 05:00. No driving entitlement during this time.
  • The rule applies to all 17-year-olds, including those who received their passenger car license before this change.

If the prohibition is violated.

If an underage driver drives a vehicle requiring a passenger car license between 00:00 and 05:00, this will generally result in a driving ban and a fine.

In addition, the person who handed over the vehicle may be issued a fine. The guardian is responsible for supervising the underage driver's driving entitlement.

Underage driver identifier becomes mandatory in October 2026

Changes related to the driver examination

  • Cheating on the theory test of the driver examination results in a 6-month participation ban.
  • The driving ban training for new drivers is extended to also cover drivers of tractors, mopeds and light quadricycles, as well as those placed under a temporary driving ban.
  • Hazard perception training expands from 8 hours to 12 hours starting from October 2026.
  • The use of simulator instruction is restricted.
  • The proportion of simulator instruction may henceforth be at most half of the driving instruction.
